There are only two types of ransomware victims: those who have been attacked and those who don’t even know they are under attack.

To help organizations better understand the realities of ransomware and the importance of adopting proactive cybersecurity measures, Sophos is raising awareness of the issues. Partners looking to improve their customer’s cybersecurity posture can join a live online webinar, “The Realities of Ransomware: Insights from Joe Levy,” on July 13 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

Levy, Sophos President, CTO, and Chief Product Officer, will host a panel discussion with Sophos Vice President of Managed Detection and Response Mat Gangwer and Director of Incident Response Peter Mackenzie,  to discuss the changing cybercrime landscape, what new vulnerabilities are emerging, and what tools and techniques can be used to combat ransomware. Attendees will walk away with a better understanding of proactive cybersecurity measures that build resilience against cyberthreats.

Cyberthreats Are Diversifying as Cybercrime Evolves

Cybercrime never takes a break, constantly exerting pressure on corporate IT defenses. There is a ransomware attack every 11 seconds. Indeed, 94 percent of companies surveyed by Sophos report being targeted by a ransomware attack last year, and many assume they will be targeted again this year.

Cybercriminals are adopting a “crime as a service” business model, contracting the technical services of experienced ransomware gangs. Their attacks are increasing in scope, scale, and sophistication. IT departments are struggling to stem the tide using their own limited resources. But a better solution is to retain the services of a security vendor specializing in cyber defense.

Sophos is aware that ransomware is an evolving threat. There is a never-ending action/reaction cycle as cybercriminals craft new attack methods while security vendors develop new defense stratagems and tools. The goal is to get ahead of the cycle, increasing the failure rate of cyberattacks to the point where ransomware no longer pays as much as an honest job.

The ransomware webinar ties off a compelling three-part documentary put out by Sophos that delves into the alarming realities of ransomware, which you can watch here.
