Security Content Technologies (SCT), based in Cincinnati, OH, is a top cyber security value-added reseller (VAR) and Managed Service Provider (MSP). It works with local companies, K-12 school districts, higher education institutions, and state and local governments. All these customers have a common need for customized cybersecurity solutions that deliver smarter, faster, more effective around-the-clock defenses.

Peace of Mind and Rock-Solid Security

“I wanted our clients to have a trusted resource that would listen to their needs, understand their budgets, understand their business cases, and help them craft the best cybersecurity solutions for their particular company,” said Karen Greer, CEO of Security Content Technologies.

As a longtime Sophos Platinum Partner, Greer became sold on the power of Sophos Managed Detection and Response (MDR) while helping a new client resolve a ransomware attack. Using a different security solution, the client could not isolate the breach, meaning the attacker had free rein to do even more damage across the network.

The first thing Greer did was call the Sophos Rapid Response team. Within two hours of discovery, Sophos put in place a remediation plan. Secure Content Technologies and the Sophos Rapid Response team took control of the environment and installed Sophos MDR on the company’s devices and servers. The client's system was repaired, restored, and protected within one week under Sophos' watchful eye.

Now, Greer steers all her clients to Sophos MDR. “For all of them, having MDR in place where their assets are monitored 24/7/365 days a year is an added plus and gives them peace of mind—and it gives us peace of mind. All of our clients are all clamoring for it.”

Ransomware Realities Isn’t Going Away

Greer's story has a happy ending. With big help from Sophos, her company saved a client and strengthened its defenses. But ransomware is a problem that won’t go away.

Sophos measured the problem in its annual State of Ransomware 2024 survey. Although the rate of ransomware attacks has slightly decreased, 59 percent of firms surveyed still experienced one in the last year. Seven out of 10 attacks encrypted data, and ransom dollar amounts increased fivefold. For the second year running, almost a third of the attacks (32%) exploited an unpatched vulnerability.

Sophos partners are on the front lines, crafting, installing, and configuring security solutions to suit their clients' needs. But they also depend on Sophos for dedicated support, monitoring services, and remediation.

Greer pointed out that her firm gets an extra boost whenever they turn to their Sophos account manager. "We are able to utilize his intelligence and expertise as we run into issues when my team needs an extra brain to solve them," she says. "We're also able to escalate support issues when necessary."
